What Windfall Is About

Mustafa is a young man in a shantytown neighbourhood with no settled work. Hülya, the daughter of a rich businessman who has come to put a block of flats up there, takes an interest in him. Mustafa gets an idea: if he marries this girl, his family is saved. He goes after her, presents himself as something he is not, and makes a fool of himself. Meanwhile there is something between him and a girl from his own street. What he has to choose in the end is not a girl but which life he wants. Memduh Ün directs the Turkish comedy; seventy-nine minutes, with Kemal Sunal as Mustafa and Serpil Çakmaklı as Hülya, and Mehtap Ar and Reha Yurdakul in the cast. Like most of Sunal's films of the eighties, it works class difference through comedy.
