Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna

Taichi is twenty-two and at university, Yamato is out working. The creatures they partnered with as children, when they went into the digital world, are still with them. Then a rule emerges: when a chosen child grows up the bond breaks and the digimon disappears. The time remaining shows on a counter on the arm. The film is not interested in adventure. It is interested in childhood closing: under all the action it places one question, whether growing up requires losing something. The answer shows the audience no mercy. The form is the animation of the series: evolution sequences, wide battles and realistically drawn Tokyo streets. The tone is markedly heavier than the earlier films. Tomohisa Taguchi directed. The production was designed for viewers who watched the series in the late nineties and are now adults, and it met a strong response from that generation in Japan. It was presented as a closing for the first-generation characters. Natsuki Hanae voices Taichi. Who it is for: people who watched the series as children and viewers who like farewells. Who it is not for: anyone new to it. The film introduces no one, and without the attachment the weight of the final section never forms.
