What DIVE Is About

Mariel is a veteran diver taking her last chance at the Olympics. Training alongside young athletes at the camp, something from her own past comes back: what happened to her years ago at the hands of the same coach and what she could not say then. Now she sees the same thing being done to another girl. Lucía Puenzo based the film on real events of 2004. It presents abuse inside sport not as an incident but as the natural extension of the logic of performance: winning legitimises everything and the institutions protect it. Karla Souza undertook serious physical preparation for the part. The diving scenes and the interview scenes carry the same tension. It went out on Amazon. Who it is for: viewers who like sports drama and stories of institutional abuse. Who it is not for: anyone who must avoid the subject of sexual abuse.
