Doberman Cop

Joji Kano is a policeman from the backcountry of Okinawa; he is nothing like his city colleagues and pays no attention to the rules. He is sent to Tokyo to investigate the killing of an Okinawan woman. The trail takes him into the entertainment business, the talent agencies and the mob's share of it. The further he follows the missing woman, the less the case stays a murder file. Kinji Fukasaku directed this, one of Sonny Chiba's action films of the 1970s. The handheld camera and hard cutting of Fukasaku's yakuza pictures are here too, but the tone is more playful. The telling keeps reminding you of the distance between Okinawa and Tokyo: the man from the provinces stays a foreigner in the capital. It was adapted from a manga series.
