Dominic and the Ladies' Purse

Gautham Vasudev Menon's 2025 Malayalam film follows a former policeman who has lost his standing. Dominic was dismissed and now works as a detective on small jobs; the case brought to him is simple, to find the owner of a lost purse. But as he follows it, missing people, a murder and a story of pursuit around a dancer named Nandhita emerge. The film does not resolve its mystery quickly; Dominic's own past, his relationship with drink and his longing for the job carry equal weight. Menon's familiar manner holds here too: night shooting, quiet scenes and the character's inner voice. Mammootty plays the part with restraint and carries the film. The story is built to continue. Who it's for: viewers who like Malayalam crime films and slow mysteries. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a completed story; the film leaves its ending open.
