What Don't Shoot Is About
9 November 1985, Aalst. In an armed raid on a Delhaize supermarket, nine-year-old David Van de Steen loses his mother, his father and his sister. He survives. What is left is his grandfather Albert, who has to build the boy a life again. Years pass, the file stays open, nobody is caught. As David grows up he will not let the question go: who were these men and why were they never found. Stijn Coninx directs the Belgian film; two hours and nineteen minutes, adapted from the book David Van de Steen wrote with the journalist Annemie Bulté, with Jan Decleir as the grandfather. The attacks carried out by the Nijvel gang between 1982 and 1985 have still never been solved.
