What Dr. Jack Is About
Jack Jackson is a country doctor who cures his patients with good cheer rather than medicine and does not much mind the rules. He is called to a wealthy family's daughter, who has been kept in bed as an invalid for years, an arrangement that has made Doctor Saulsbourg and his sanatorium a great deal of money. Jack sees at once that there is nothing wrong with her, and his treatment is nothing like theirs. This 1922 film is one of Harold Lloyd's silent features. His comedy works not by climbing towards danger but by taking an ordinary situation and letting it go off the rails step by step, and the final stretch here is a good sample of it. Mildred Davis plays opposite him; the two married shortly afterwards.
