What Dreams with Sharp Teeth Is About
The documentary is about the American writer Harlan Ellison and gives most of its time to simply listening to him: reading passages from his own work, telling stories about his childhood, showing the house he called the Lost Aztec Temple of Mars, and counting off everything he ever picked a fight with. Erik Nelson assembled new and archival footage over a shooting period that stretched across twenty-five years. Neil Gaiman, Robin Williams and Peter David speak about him. Richard Thompson’s guitar carries the score. The method is not to smooth the argument down but to leave a man’s voice exactly as it is.
