Drop Dead Gorgeous

A beauty pageant is held in a small Minnesota town. The contestants start having accidents one by one. The film is shot as a mock documentary; a camera crew moves through the town and everyone talks to it. The narrative never explains the deaths and makes the town treating them as normal its central joke. The tone is thoroughly merciless. Michael Patrick Jann directed. Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Ellen Barkin and Allison Janney are in the cast. It was harshly reviewed on release and became a cult film later. A real warning: death, eating disorders and serious injury are all used as material for jokes. Be ready for black comedy at that pitch.
