What Ever Since Eve Is About

Madge Winton is a good secretary but she is not left alone at work. To get clear of her bosses making passes at her, she deliberately makes herself plain. She dresses down, changes her hair and tries not to be noticed. Her new employer, the writer Freddy Matthews, happens to see her without the disguise. After that Madge has to pass herself off as her roommate Sadie. One person with two identities soon turns into a knot nobody can undo. The film works in the fast talking shape of screwball comedy. The joke is not the woman’s plainness but the behaviour of the men. Marion Davies and Robert Montgomery take the leads in Lloyd Bacon’s eighty minute American film, completed in 1937.
