What Action in the North Atlantic Is About
Joe Rossi and Steve Jarvis are Merchant Marine officers assigned to get a supply ship through to the Soviet Union as part of a convoy. German U-boats are hunting them, and they sail with the memory of an earlier ship that went down under them. The film is about the men who worked the most dangerous route of the war without counting as soldiers. It is a 1943 Warner Bros production and openly a piece of propaganda, with Humphrey Bogart and Raymond Massey in front. The screenplay is by John Howard Lawson, who a few years later would be blacklisted as one of the Hollywood Ten, and the film was nominated for an Academy Award for its original story.
