What Picture Snatcher Is About
Lloyd Bacon's 1933 pre-Code film follows a man out of prison moving into newspaper work. Danny Kean, played by James Cagney, carries everything he learned on the street into the new job: forcing doors, lying, getting into places nobody is allowed and taking a picture. The film does not idealise journalism; it does the opposite and shows how far a reporter will go. Its best-known scene is an execution photographed in secret. Seventy-seven minutes that never stop running, hard and fast, in the Warner manner.
