Fanny by Gaslight

Fanny finishes boarding school and returns to London. The year is the eighteen seventies. On the day she returns she witnesses a fight. Her father is fighting Lord Manderstoke. Her father dies in it. Then Fanny learns something. Her family had been running a brothel next door for years. Her mother dies soon after. A second truth follows. Her real father is a well respected politician. Fanny meets him. She falls in love with his young adviser. The adviser is called Harry Somerford. The difference in class stands in their way. Lord Manderstoke keeps crossing her path as well. James Mason, Phyllis Calvert and Stewart Granger appear in the hundred and seven minute film, a British production Anthony Asquith finished in 1944.
