Flying Phantom Ship

Hayato's city is attacked by an enormous robot. His parents are left dead in the rubble and his dog is all he has. What he wants is revenge on the Phantom Ship the robot is said to have come from. He is taken into the house of Kuroshio, the most powerful man in the city, and then stumbles into an underground passage and sees that what he has been told does not hold up. This 1969 Toei feature comes from a short manga by Shotaro Ishinomori. Its real place in film history is this: the design of the robot and the key animation of the sequences where it destroys the city were done by a then-unknown Hayao Miyazaki. It looks like a children's film and is startlingly hard on corporations and on being lied to.
