What Forever Chape Is About
In 2016 seventy one people died when the plane carrying them to Medellín for the South American Cup final came down; the players, coaching staff, directors and journalists of Chapecoense, the club of the Brazilian city of Chapecó, were almost entirely lost. Without going into the details of the crash, the documentary uses archive footage to tell how the club rose from the fourth division to the first in six years and how it gathered the city around itself, and then looks at the effort to rebuild the team. Three players who survived, Neto, Alan Ruschel and Follmann, also speak in the film. Because the association formed by the victims’ families went to court against the film, it could only be shown roughly a year after the two other films about the same events. Luis Ara’s seventy three minute production was completed in 2018.
