USA 94: Brazil's Return to Glory

Luis Ara's documentary is about the World Cup Brazil won in 1994. The team brought the trophy back after twenty-four years, and expectation at home rose steadily through the tournament. At the centre is the tension within the squad. Players and staff describe the arguments of the time, the criticism of how the team played and the choices made in favour of the result; the narrative does not treat the victory as sufficient in itself. Romário, Bebeto and Dunga are among those who speak. Previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage is used, and the penalty shootout in the final is covered in detail. Who it's for: those who like football history and sports documentary. Who it's not for: viewers with no interest in football; the documentary gives wide space to the detail of matches.
