What Forman vs. Forman Is About
The documentary tells the life and work of the Czech director Milos Forman largely in his own voice. A hard childhood, his years inside the Czech New Wave, his leaving the country, the difficult period in New York and the success that came in Hollywood are given in turn. Archive footage and old interviews are joined in the editing, and as the man tells his own life it becomes visible how much of that life politics decided. The film does not glorify Forman; it also counts the price of the choices he made. The seventy eight minute Czech documentary by Jakub Hejna and Helena Trestikova was completed in 2019.
