Friend Zone

Palm and Gink have been friends for ten years. They met at university; one night he tried to say something and she turned him down. From that day they stayed friends. Palm is cabin crew; she flies city to city and calls Gink about every relationship. He listens, comforts her, buys a ticket and goes to her. The years pass. Palm starts a new relationship and suspects the man is deceiving her. Gink helps again. At a certain point he asks a question: how long is this going to go on. Chayanop Boonprakob directs. Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul plays Palm and Naphat Siangsomboon plays Gink. It is a Thai production. The narrative spreads over years and each section is set in another city; Hong Kong, Myanmar and different parts of Thailand are used. The matter it treats is the boundary of friendship; the film builds it as a romantic waiting and questions it at the end. The narrative does not put Gink entirely in the right; his waiting is his own choice. The film follows the romantic comedy shape and the pace is light. The narrative shows the woman's decisions too and does not leave her only as a target. The ending gives no classic coming together. The film was watched outside Thailand as well and became a widely known romantic comedy in the region. Its limit is length; the narrative is long, the sections repeat, and the ending comes late.
