What From the Terrace Is About
Coming back from the war, Alfred Eaton decides against his father's factory and goes to New York instead. He climbs quickly on Wall Street and is close to everything he set out to get. His marriage collapses at the same speed: his wife Mary is beautiful, unfaithful, and neither of them pretends otherwise. In the end he has to choose between the career and starting over with Natalie, who is considerably younger. Mark Robson adapts John O'Hara's novel and spends two and a half hours on the American success story and its price. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, married in life at the time, play the couple.
