What My Foolish Heart Is About

After a long absence Mary Jane visits her school friend Eloise. Eloise drinks too much, is unhappily married, and when she falls asleep she goes back to the beginning of the war and to the man she actually loved. What is most discussed about the film now is its source: it was adapted from a J. D. Salinger story of 1948 and remains the only film adaptation the author ever authorised. Salinger was so unhappy with the result that he never released another text, which is the reason The Catcher in the Rye has never been filmed. Susan Hayward was nominated for an Academy Award for it.
