What Gachi Boy: Wrestling with a Memory Is About
Igarashi is a student of law. He has already passed the bar exam. A year earlier he was in a serious accident. The accident took his short-term memory. He cannot learn anything new. He gets through the day on detailed notes and photographs. Every morning he finds the records he left for himself. One day he joins the school’s wrestling club. What he is after is for his body to remember. The people around him do not understand the decision. Those in the club do not know his condition. That he cannot learn even simple staging leaves them puzzled. He improvises most of his first match, in Norihiro Koizumi’s Japanese film of 2008 with Ryuta Sato and Saeko.
