What The Lines That Define Me Is About
Sousuke Aoyama, a university student, lost his parents in a traffic accident and has been unable to hold on to anything since. At an exhibition he meets Kozan Shinoda, a master of ink painting; the man sees something in him and, surprisingly, takes him on as a pupil. The master’s granddaughter does not take Sousuke seriously and says outright that she will compete with him for the same prize. The young man, who seems uninterested in painting at first, is drawn in with every stroke he makes and begins to recognise his own state on the paper. Norihiro Koizumi’s hundred and seven minute Japanese film was adapted from a novel; Ryusei Yokohama plays Sousuke. It was completed in 2022.
