Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Border 2: Ghost Whispers

Motoko has left her previous assignment and is no longer on her own; she will work under the new unit Aramaki is forming. The team does not exist yet. Batou, Togusa and the others work in different places and none of them wants to take her orders. At the same time an investigation opens: there is a pattern of cyber attacks and who is behind it is unclear. Motoko has to assemble the team while doing the job. The control over her own body is also in question; on whose behalf and by whom she works sits inside the narrative. Kazuchika Kise directs. It is the second part of the Arise series in the Ghost in the Shell world. The Arise series takes the characters at an earlier point and this part describes directly how the team was formed. The matter the narrative builds is trust; the members do not know each other and each comes from a different institution. The cyber attack strand is given with technical detail, and the series generally likes to explain such things. Maaya Sakamoto gives Motoko's voice and the character's design differs from earlier versions. The part is not built to be watched on its own; the narrative requires the first. The animation is detailed and the city design is at the known level of the series. Who it is for: people following the series and viewers who like science fiction animation. Who it is not for: it is not an entry point, the terminology is dense, and the plot convoluted.
