Gipsy Queen

Ali was once a promising boxer, the only daughter of the leader of a Roma community. When she gives birth to her second child outside marriage she falls out of favour with her family. She takes the children to Hamburg and works there as a cleaner at a nightclub. All she wants is an education and a chance in Germany for the two of them. Then she meets Tanne, a former boxer who trains new fighters at a club. So the possibility of going back into the ring opens up in front of Ali. The film shows boxing not as a fable of rising but as a way of staying on her feet. Alina Serban and Tobias Moretti appear in Hüseyin Tabak’s Austrian and German coproduction of 2019.
