Giulia Doesn't Date at Night

Guido is a well-known writer with a life that looks perfect from outside: a wife, a daughter. But the new book is not moving. At the pool where he takes his daughter for lessons he meets Giulia, a swimming instructor, calm and at a distance. Guido attaches himself to her. After a while he learns why she cannot go out in the evenings: she is serving a prison sentence and works during the day on release. Guido realises he could turn this into a story, and that is where the real question starts. Giuseppe Piccioni directs, with Valerio Mastandrea as Guido and Valeria Golino as Giulia. A hundred and five minutes. What the film asks is how much right a writer has to turn another person's life into material.
