Gorbachev. Heaven

Mikhail Gorbachev was the last leader of the Soviet Union. Perestroika and glasnost began in his time. In the West he drew a great deal of attention. In his own country he met with heavy criticism. The documentary shows him in his last years. Old, alone and unwell. He lives at home with a few people around him. The camera follows his daily state. Meals, medicine and long silences. The director puts questions to him. Gorbachev defends the past and argues about it. He moves between regret and conviction. The account neither raises him up nor puts him on trial. Mikhail Gorbachev speaks in the hundred and one minute documentary, a French, Latvian and Czech production Vitaly Mansky finished in 2021.
