What Grandma's Boy Is About

The young man is timid, frightened and entirely without confidence. When a tramp starts terrorising the town and everyone turns out to catch him, our boy hides, and the girl he likes sees him do it. Then his grandmother steps in and tells him about a magic charm his grandfather carried through the American Civil War. With the charm in his pocket the boy becomes a completely different man. Fred C. Newmeyer directs, with Harold Lloyd in the lead. It is one of Lloyd's first features, and building a character rather than simply stringing gags together is counted as a turning point in his own career. It asks where courage comes from as though it were a joke, and answers it seriously.
