Harvest Moon

This Mongolian film, the directing debut of Amarsaikhan Baljinnyam, adapts T. Bum-Erden’s short novel Tuntuulei. Tulgaa returns to the village he came from to look after his dying stepfather, and offers to help with the summer harvest in order to finish what is left undone. Watching his clumsy first attempts, ten-year-old Tuntuulei takes it upon himself to teach the man from the city how things are done on the grassland. What begins badly finds common ground quickly, and both of them are changed by it. Baljinnyam directs and plays Tulgaa. It was Mongolia’s submission for the international feature Oscar. Tenuun-Erdene Garamkhand plays Tuntuulei.
