What Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics Is About
The documentary gathers celebrities recounting psychedelic experiences and pairs them with animation and reconstruction; Sting, Ben Stiller, Nick Offerman, Carrie Fisher and many more speak. The register is comic throughout, and the film periodically stops to cover the research history, the prohibition in the sixties and the clinical work of recent years. Donick Cary's structure is deliberately uneven: one story is ridiculous, the next is frightening, and both are given equal weight. The safety warnings are folded into the humour. Netflix released it in 2020. Who it is for: viewers who like light documentary and pop culture storytelling. Who it is not for: anyone wanting rigorous scientific examination, since this is mostly anecdote.
