Hi-Five

Five people who receive organs from the same donor come out of surgery with strange abilities: one becomes extraordinarily strong, one can hold his breath for a very long time, one heals what she touches. When the five come together they realise someone is after those same organs. Kang Hyoung-chul wrote and directed. The cast includes Lee Jae-in, Ahn Jae-hong, Kim Hee-won, Ra Mi-ran and Yoo Ah-in. Kang had already made Scandal Makers, Sunny and the Tazza sequel, and comic timing is again at the centre. The idea is to bring the superhero template down into Korean daily life: none of them wants to be a hero and the powers complicate their lives more than they help. The action is subordinate to the comedy; the fights are staged to be funny rather than impressive. Yoo Ah-in's own legal proceedings affected the release schedule and the film opened later than planned. Who it is for: viewers who like Korean comedy and genre parody. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a serious superhero film; this is a joke from start to finish.
