Honey 3: Dare to Dance

The third film in the series relocates entirely, to Cape Town. Melea Martin, played by Cassie Ventura, wants to stage a contemporary hip hop version of Romeo and Juliet in her mother's memory, and when she is thrown out of school for unpaid tuition she has to mount the production on her own. Kenny Wormald plays her boyfriend Erik. Bille Woodruff is back in the chair and keeps the template intact: gifted young performer, institutional obstacle, assembling a crew, closing show. The South African setting gives the images some life and the dance sequences are clearly where the effort went, but the script takes the shortest available route between them. It never reached cinemas, arriving on 6 September 2016 straight to Netflix and DVD. Who it is for: viewers who like dance films and watch the genre for the final number. Who it is not for: anyone looking for an original story or credible character development.
