Hysterical

The documentary is about women on the stand-up circuit. Most of those speaking have been on stage for years. The camera watches them backstage. There are moments before they go on as well. What they talk about is not only comedy. They discuss what it takes to be a woman in this work. The pay gap comes up. The behaviour they meet on stage is described. Motherhood and the question of the body are opened up too. Some subjects are never turned into a joke. The film gives room to the generation before them. The names who opened the way are recalled. The account shows a hard fought struggle. Nikki Glaser and Judy Gold speak in the eighty seven minute documentary, an American production Andrea Blaugrund Nevins finished in 2021.
