Incredibles 2

Brad Bird’s 2018 animation resumes in the minute the first film ended. Fourteen years had passed in the real world, and the choice was deliberate: Bird did not want Violet and Dash to age or their powers to change. The subject is public opinion, not punching. The plot turns on lobbying to overturn a law, and Elastigirl returns to the field as the promotional face of a company that films her rescues. A viewer expecting a superhero picture where the villain gets hit finds meetings, presentations and rescues staged for a camera crew. The second thing is concrete. The rapid flashing in the Screenslaver’s hypnosis scenes prompted the Epilepsy Foundation to act in June 2018, and the foundation noted it had never asked for a warning on a film before. Disney had American cinemas post written notices that the film contained a sequence of flashing lights. Britain took another route: a re-edited cinema version, classified by the BBFC on 4 July 2018, was the print distributed there. There is a voice change too. Bud Luckey, who played Rick Dicker in the first film, had retired, so Jonathan Banks took over, which is why the character sounds wrong to you. Not for you if: you are photosensitive and cannot tell which of the two prints your cinema is running.
