What It's a Free World... Is About
After being fired, Angie decides to work for herself: with a friend she opens a recruitment office in her kitchen, placing migrants from Eastern Europe in jobs. The business grows fast, because desperation is plentiful and nobody asks many questions. Loach tells this one from the side of the exploiter rather than the exploited; Angie is not a bad person, only someone thinking about her own child's future, and that is exactly what makes it heavier. There is undeclared work, illegal labour and intimidation in it.
