Khal Nayak

Ballu is among the country's most wanted criminals. Inspector Ram finally catches him, but Ballu escapes from prison and the blame falls on Ram. Ram's fiancée Ganga is a police officer too and decides to catch the man her own way: she hides her identity and works her way into Ballu's circle. The plan works, but something unexpected happens; Ballu falls in love with her, and Ganga cannot stay entirely cold either. What surrounded the film was talked about more than its plot. Sanjay Dutt, who plays Ballu, was arrested in April 1993, four months before the release, under the anti-terrorism law; there was a weapons case connected to the Bombay bombings. Years later the court cleared him of the terrorism charges and convicted him only of possessing arms. The film opened in August 1993 and became the second highest earner of that year. The song Choli Ke Peeche caused a separate censorship argument. Subhash Ghai directed.
