The last day before the summer holidays at a high school on the outskirts of Rome. The staff meeting is arguing over who will be held back a year, and that meeting runs through the film. Vivaldi, who teaches literature, has attached himself to his students as if they were his own children; a colleague is thoroughly sick of all of them. Luchetti neither exalts the school nor turns it into a cartoon: tired teachers, hopeless students and a few real connections in between. Silvio Orlando plays it fragile. It starts as comedy and grows sadder.
