The Yes Man

Luciano teaches at a provincial secondary school, writes, and has an honest and quiet life. He accepts an offer from Rome: he will write speeches for Cesare Botero, a young minister on the way up. The further in he gets, the clearer it becomes that the speeches are the innocent part of the job; there are contracts, threats, journalists bought, and everything else conducted in the back room. At some point Luciano will either walk away or become part of it. Daniele Luchetti's film came out in 1991, just before Italy's great corruption investigations broke, and was read afterwards as prophetic. Nanni Moretti plays the minister and Silvio Orlando plays Luciano.
