What Call Me Francis Is About
The film covers the life of Jorge Mario Bergoglio before he was elected pope. It begins with a young Jesuit in Buenos Aires. Then comes the military dictatorship in Argentina: people disappear, the church does not know what to do, and Bergoglio has to deal with what happens to two priests of his own order. Those years leave their mark on him and on the church alike. After them come a period that amounts to exile and a return to Buenos Aires. Daniele Luchetti directs, with Rodrigo de la Serna as Bergoglio and Sergio Hernández and Mercedes Morán alongside him. What it is about is not the papacy but the years before it.
