What Our Life Is About
Claudio works construction on the outskirts of Rome; his wife is pregnant with their third child and life, narrow as it is, looks fine. When she dies giving birth, the only thing Claudio can do with grief is work harder. Around the same time he turns what he knows about the body of an immigrant worker who died on the site into leverage, and sets himself up as a contractor. Luchetti does not ennoble the pain: running between debt, ambition and guilt, the man stops seeing his own children. Elio Germano shared the best actor prize at Cannes for this.
