Libera, My Love

Libera is a strong willed woman. The story runs from the start of the century to the end of the war. Libera hands herself over to no camp. Church, fascism, communism, liberal democracy, she takes up none of them. She counts herself an anarchist. That position costs her dearly. She and her husband move from city to city. They settle in Modena. There she comes up against a fascist official. The man’s name is Franco Testa. Libera faces both political and personal pressure. She takes part in the resistance and is imprisoned. When the war ends she meets something else. Former fascists keep their places under the new order too. The film was argued over for years because of it. Its release was held back by two years. Claudia Cardinale and Bruno Cirino appear in the hundred and ten minute film, an Italian production Mauro Bolognini finished in 1975.
