What Liberation - Part 4 : The Battle of Berlin Is About
The fourth film in the series is about the last road to Berlin. The Soviet army launches its assault on the city and moves forward street by street. At the same time Stalin sits down with the other Allies, and what comes after the war is bargained over as much as its ending. The soldier at the front and the statesman at the table are constantly cut against each other. This is the fourth part of Yuri Ozerov's five-film Liberation series. It uses large-scale battle scenes and a crowded cast. Mikhail Ulyanov plays Zhukov. The telling stays tied to the official Soviet version of history; at what cost the decisions were taken is not argued. That is worth knowing while watching, though the urban battle scenes still land.
