What Lorna's Silence Is About

Lorna is Albanian, living in Liège, married on paper to Claudy, a heroin addict, in exchange for Belgian citizenship. For the men who arranged it, the next step is simple: Claudy overdoses, Lorna becomes a widow, and she marries again for a larger fee. Then Claudy decides to get clean, and there is nobody else he can ask for help. The Dardennes deliver no lesson. They simply show when Lorna speaks and when she stays quiet, and what each silence costs her.
