Love Between the Raindrops

The story is set in Prague in the years leading up to the Second World War. Vincenc Bursík, a cobbler, moves his family from the country to the city. Within months he loses both his wife and his shoe business. His daughter goes to live with a wealthy businessman as his mistress. Vincenc is left with his two sons. The boys spend their days in a secret garden, competing for the attention of the same young girl. The film runs a family story together with the tension of the years before the war. How falling into poverty breaks a household apart is the real subject. Vladimír Menšík and Rudolf Hrušínský appear in Karel Kachyňa’s hundred and twenty six minute Czechoslovak film, completed in 1980.
