Jumping Over Puddles

The account is set in the last years of Austria Hungary. At its centre is a boy. His father is a horse trainer. For the boy there is nothing better than riding. His days pass in the stable and out in the fields. Then the boy falls ill. The illness is polio. His legs no longer hold him as they did. Walking becomes a task in itself. The people around him start looking at him differently. He for his part will not give up riding. His family try both to help him and to protect him. The boy wants to measure his own limits himself. Vladimír Dlouhý and Zdena Hadrbolcová take the leads. The film was adapted from a novel. Karel Kachyňa’s Czechoslovak film was finished in 1971.
