The Last Butterfly

Antoine Moreau performs mime on stage. One day the Gestapo summons him. He is asked to put together a performance. The show is to be for the children in the Terezin camp. The camp is presented to the outside as a model place. The aim is to convince a Red Cross delegation. At first Moreau does not want the job. Once in the camp he begins to see the situation. He learns what the transports leaving there mean. There is an orchestra in the camp. All the musicians are prisoners. Moreau puts the show together with the children. He makes his own decision about what to stage. Tom Courtenay and Brigitte Fossey take the leads in Karel Kachyňa’s Czechoslovak, French and British coproduction of 1991.
