Lynch (one)

This 2007 documentary records David Lynch at work. The footage was gathered over a period spanning two years and covers the time he was preparing a film. The method is not to explain. There is almost no interview; Lynch paints, records sound, shouts on set and breaks off his sentences mid-thought. The camera gives all this without putting it in order. The person who shot it keeps their name concealed and the recording quality is left deliberately rough. The narrative offers no summary of a career; it draws a portrait out of daily working habits, fixations and repetitions. Who it's for: those who follow Lynch closely and like documentary that watches a process of making. Who it's not for: viewers looking for an introduction to the filmography; the documentary explains none of the films.
