Macho Man

Carlão works at a car dealership and the talk with his friends is always the same: football, cars and jokes about gay men. One day he chases Evaristo, the target of those jokes, and locks him in a locker. The locker turns out to be magic. From that night on, when night falls Carlão turns into Carlinhos: into the target of every joke he has been making. Pedro Amorim's Brazilian comedy is built on a simple idea that turns homophobia around: the man becomes the person he has been mocking. The pattern is old, but the film fills it with the everyday language of Brazilian masculinity. Luís Lobianco plays both personalities. The comedy goes to coarse places and does so knowingly; what it is saying is plain enough: contempt feeds on a person's own fear.
