Made in Bangladesh

Shimu, twenty three, works in a clothing factory in Dhaka. The conditions are hard, and after an incident she decides to start a union together with her workmates. The management threatens them, her husband does not approve, and the official registration keeps putting new obstacles in the women’s way. Even so Shimu does not give up; they have to find a way to register the union and can only do it together. The film tells the ready made clothing industry and the position of women workers from inside; the account asks no pity and shows how organising proceeds step by step. Rikita Nandini Shimu plays the lead in Rubaiyat Hossain’s ninety five minute Bangladeshi film, completed in 2019.
