What Malandro Is About
The account is set in Rio de Janeiro in the nineteen forties. The place is the Lapa district. It is known for its night life. Max is a well known figure there. He dresses well and everyone knows him. He lives off small swindles. He also takes what he can from a cabaret singer. Her name is Margot. The cabaret belongs to Otto Strudell. Max meets his daughter Ludmila. Ludmila wants to get rich smuggling goods in wartime. Their paths cross, and the account comes from Chico Buarque’s musical, which itself goes back to the Threepenny Opera of Brecht and Weill.
