What Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Afterglow of Zeon Is About
Universal Century 0083. Three years after the One Year War, the Delaz Fleet, a Zeon remnant still loyal to the dead dictator Gihren Zabi, breaks the peace. Their ace pilot Anavel Gato raids a Federation base in Australia and steals a nuclear-armed Gundam prototype, and recovering it falls to the rookie Kou Uraki. What matters here is that this is not the original: it is the thirteen-episode Stardust Memory series cut down for cinemas. When it opened in Japan in August 1992 the last two episodes had not yet reached video, so audiences saw the ending in a theatre first. The compression costs a great deal; some characters vanish entirely because their deaths were cut.
